I wanna talk about anxiety.

I deal with anxiety to the point that I take pills everyday for it. Full disclosure, my depression is also addressed with this pill.

Even with the pills on board I still have issues with anxiety.

Some examples?

Everytime I have a session with a new client I get real anxious leading up to it. When the session is over? Boom! Anxiety gone. It always turns out great and I feel like a fool for getting so wrapped up in my own thoughts on it.

Another example?

In 2009, we had a bad thunderstorm that dumped a crap-ton of rain on us here in Iowa. Our old sump pump couldn't keep up with it so our basement flooded by about an inch or so. Soon after we got a new sump pump that had the horsepower to keep up with almost any amount of rainfall and it's been holding it's own ever since. knock on wood! That was 16 years ago and the research I've done says you should replace your sump pump every 10 years or so. Flash to today and everytime we get any significant rainfall, I get real anxious because my fear is the basement will flood again.

Gotta get a new sump pump!

It's funny, the day I started writing this is the same day I'm scheduled to go over my meds with my psychiatrist. Fitting that I'm getting the 'tank' filled again.

So what can you/I do? Other than the meds there's probably a lot you can do.

  1. Stretching. Before I do a session with a client that's making the anxiety meter go crazy, I'll do a stretch that I learned from Nic Redman. It definitely helps and, bonus, I get a little better bloodflow.
  2. Go for a walk.
  3. Get some exercise
  4. Meditate. I sometimes use the Insight Timer app.

There's probably a bunch more things you can do (or smoke 😜!) that'll help with anxiety.

Just know that it's totally normal. This is your body's response to encountering something dangerous situations or scenarios you're unsure of. Some of us just have a little bit more.
